The Hedgerow welcomes thoughtful contributions about birdwatching and backyard wildlife, from useful identification approaches to the small design choices that help a shared outdoor space support living things.
What makes a good contribution
We look for a clear subject, a distinct point of view, and writing that helps readers notice or understand something specific. Strong proposals explain who the piece is for, what it will cover, and why the subject suits gardens, balconies, or other close-to-home wildlife settings. Evergreen ideas are especially welcome when they need neither fresh statistics nor claims of personal testing.
Care and clarity
Contributions should be original, accurate, and attentive to the limits of what can be inferred from an observation. Avoid disturbing wildlife for a story or presenting a single setting as typical everywhere. If a proposal draws on personal experience, make that perspective clear and separate it from general claims.
Send a proposal
Use the Contact page to send a short pitch with a working title, a few sentences describing the piece, and any relevant context. Please send a proposal rather than a finished article unless an editor has requested a draft. A proposal is not a promise of publication.
